1. Anonymous asked: Hey Tim!
I'm leaving for Korea in about two weeks to teach English and got placed in Chungbuk! I'm kind of freaking out cause I have never heard of this place... I was wondering if you can fill me in a bit regarding the weather, how far it is from Seoul, and all that good stuff. I saw your other post on another anonymous asking about Chungbuk, but it'd be nice if you can give more insighs on the place? It'd be very much appreciated! :)

    Hi Anonymous!

Chungchgonbuk-do is a pretty large place with many areas that you could be placed in.  The two largest cities in this province is my city Cheongju, and Chungju.  I can give you some of my knowledge based on where I live but keep in mind I can’t speak for the whole province.  Cheongju is a great city.  It’s about 1 hour and 30 min from Seoul and it’s very easy to get around.  The weather is extreme, but I think all of Korea has extreme weather.  In the summer it is hot, around 30-32C and wildly humid.  The humidity was hard to live with (especially during the rainy season) and I’m from Texas so I’m quite used to hot weather.  The winter has been colder than normal, or at least that’s what my co teachers have said.  Right now the temperatures are around -15 - -5 degrees Celsius (about 5 - 23 degrees F) so pack warm clothes!  The only good thing about winters in Cheongju is they are very sunny which is nice and Cheongju doesn’t receive much snowfall.  We’ve only had two major snowfalls this year which resulted in around 4-5 inches of snow each.  Chungju is about 1 hour and 15 min northeast of Cheongju and has very similar weather but is a bit colder and has more snow.  Cheongju has plenty of nightlife and even has a few western bars around the university area (I heard a rumor there are around 200-250 foreigners living in Cheongju but I’m not sure).  There’s a fantastic Indian restaurant called Hungry Eyes if you get tired of Korean food.  There’s also a few burger places downtown and pizza is everywhere in Korea.  I hope this information helps…please feel free to ask if you have any further questions!
